There are two types of water pollution, but both are harmful. These categories of water pollution include surface water and groundwater. The difference between them is only in the place of contamination. One is above ground level and easy to detect, while the other is on the ground and difficult to control.
If a body of water contains impurities in the form of anthropogenic contaminants and is not suitable for drinking, it is referred to as polluted. Many factors contribute to water pollution. This includes both natural factors and human intervention.
Natural factors that affect water quality are storms, volcanoes, earthquakes, and algal blooms. This disturbance can lead to the clogging of fish gills and impaired plant growth.
Many chemicals that humans introduce into water bodies are toxic. Waterborne diseases can be caused by these toxins. Too, these impurities can change the pH of impure water. This can result in a change in temperature and electrical conductivity.
There are three different methods for determining the level of pollution in a particular body of water. These are physical testing, chemical testing, and biological testing. In the physical method of testing water pollution, scientists use temperature, turbidity, and solids concentration.
The third type of testing uses living organisms to determine how healthy the water system is.
